The toughest smartphone in terms of battery capacity – Motorola One Action
According to the idea of the marketers, we should have sung now, they say, this is the first smartphone that was created to replace action cameras. But mother’s mother’s video bloggers are a minority among our readers, and mobile phones are still met by clothes, so for a start we’ll go through the looks of One Action.
Here you need to make a digression and remember that, according to the unspoken fashion, each smartphone of a new generation is required to accommodate an increasingly large display. Just as you need to eat less or move more to lose weight, to increase the screens of smartphones you need to either reduce the frame or increase the diagonal “in the forehead”. The Japanese began to use the first method back in 2014, when, in order to fight against the framework, the earpiece, selfie cameras and sensors either went “under the knife” / were replaced by their own analogs, or moved to “inaccessible places”, culturally speaking.
The second method is a seasonal exacerbation of “look how long and thick I have,” which from time to time covers different manufacturers of smartphones. For example, in 2016, ASUS got sick in this way of self-expression when he released the ZenFone 3 Ultra with 6.8 inches of a 16: 9 classic display. Since then, the guys from Taiwan haven’t let out anything so monstrous and they don’t even plan to.
In 2018, maximalism knocked on the door of Huawei, and a 7.2-inch Mate 20X was born. A year later, the Huavites also “felt better”, so the Mate 30 and 30 Pro did not look beyond 6.6 “, and the Mate X series seemed to be cut short. Only Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ remained healthy from modern smartphones, but it’s rather a return to the roots – to “yes, you’re crazy to release such a shovel!”, as it was perceived at the time of the release of the first Galaxy Note in 2011. And even that, Samsung had to make a flagship from the flagship to accommodate the “cropped” version Note 10, and so that all this is no longer confused with the Galaxy S10.
But there is a third way – to make smartphones narrower, but with a long display. This idea came to the Japanese from Sony, the authors of one of the famous “shovels” of the era of early Android-smartphones. In words, it seems that smartphones with the proportions of the Twix bar are not viable, but in reality they turned out to be compact and solid in terms of the amount of information displayed, and it turned out to be more convenient to watch movies with their constantly narrowing proportions from year to year. Therefore, Sony gladly embodied all these new ideas in the mobile phones of the 2019 model year.
But … did not take off. And not because of the display, but because of the traditional greed of the creators of Xperia. Russian customers are so structured that the “yes, I’m insolent, and so what?” Approach is excusable only to Apple. But if you release an Android smartphone with a budget processor, poor battery life, a plastic case and a so-so camera for the price of 30 thousand, it strides with a bouncy step from the news “… presented in Russia … the price has been announced” straight to the grave. Unfortunately, along with a good idea to make relatively compact smartphones with a large display diagonal.
In fact, the ideas did not die, but continued to live in Motorola, which, after recently shaking the lineup into the One line, have turned from devices “very amateur” into smartphones, the purchase of which can be seriously discussed.
Oh yes, an action camera … Before us is the first smartphone that you can not turn sideways when shooting video – and the video will be shot as expected, rather than a vertical strip. But the main thing is not even that, but …
Usability and appearance
As they say in your social networks, I’m not afraid to say that this is one of the most convenient smartphones. No seriously. The idea of using an ultra-elongated aspect ratio only plays into the hands of a smartphone. Well, it’s good for the end consumer (in every sense), because the typical modern broad ones (18: 9 should have struggled with this, but instead the manufacturers increased the diagonals, and everything became as before) it’s not convenient to hold the “shovels”. And the fact that you are “normal” means “used and tolerant” because there is nothing to compare. And not because there is no better.
You and I will definitely argue about which cutouts or moving parts should be in a frameless mobile phone, but a round cutout for a selfie camera in the corner with the rest of the display with normal proportions seems to me a good option. It’s more interesting than the “snot” hanging in the center, as in most smartphones it’s cheaper than 20 thousand. It’s even strange that only competitors have such an option for layout of the front panel for 28 (Honor 20) or 33+ (Samsung Galaxy S10e) thousand rubles.
True, Motorola differs from both of these smartphones by a slightly wider frame around the selfie camera itself. Partly, this size is justified by the large size of the front sensor, but still the frame around the perimeter of the camera itself – if the cutout in the screen of the same Honor 20 is so small that it seems a hole for the lace for the neck (yes, I know that no one has been wearing smartphones for so long), then the “well” of the selfie camera in Motorola is noticeably larger.
